  14. Prepare 1 tsp jeera

  17. Get 200 gm chickpea flour (besan)
  18. Make ready 1/2 tsp Red chilli powder (opt)
  19. Get 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  20. Take 1 tsp carom seeds (ajwain)
  21. Get 1 pinch asafoetida (hing)
  22. Prepare Pinch baking soda
  23. Get Salt as per taste
  24. Make ready as needed Water
  25. Take For spicy green chutney with peanuts
  26. Take 1/2 cup coriander leaves
  27. Make ready 1/4 cup mint leaves (pudhina)
  28. Get 1 green chilles
  29. Make ready 1 inch pc ginger
  30. Take 2 garlic cloves
  31. Prepare 1 handful fried peanuts peeled
  32. Make ready 1/2 lemon juice
  33. Prepare 1/2 tsp sugar (opt)
  34. Take 1/2 tsp jeera
  35. Get as needed Water
  36. Get Salt

Serve hot with tea and green chutney / tomato ketch up. Serving Ideas: Serve Batata Vada as a snack or side dish with green chilli and coriander chutney. Steps to make Batata vada:
  1. Boil the potatoes until soft peel & mash coarsely
  2. Next prepare the tempering. Heat oil & add mustard seeds,jeera Whn they crackle, add the curry leaves followed by ginger, garlic & green chilles, chopped onion,haldi salt and add remaining ingredients
  3. Mix well & cook for a few minutes being careful not to burn the tempering.
  4. Add the tempering to mashed potatoes
  5. Divide the potatoes mixture into equal sized portions & make ball of that
  6. Make a batter with the besan & other ingredients mentioned in the batter. Be sure to add water little at a time & check the consistency, so that the batter does not become too thin.
  7. Heat the oil for deep frying
  8. When the oil is hot, dip each ball in the batter and deep fry until golden brown in colour
  9. Serve hot with green peanut chutney
  10. To make the green chutney, grind together all the ingredients for the chutney in a blender using minimum amount of water, till u get a smooth paste
