  13. Take Pinch baking soda

Steps to make Batata vada:
  1. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  2. Add chopped onions and saute them till soft.
  3. Add peeled and mashed potatoes.
  4. Add salt and other dry spices and mix them well.
  5. Mash the potatoes well with a masher.
  6. Let the mix cool then make round balls of equal size.
  7. Add salt, red chilli powder, baking soda and carrom seeds to the gram flour and make a batter with water.
  8. Coat the potato balls in this gram flour batter.
  9. Heat oil in a wok and fry them in batches.
  10. Fry them till they are golden brown on both sides. Serve hot with chutney or sauce.
