Instructions to make Batata vada:
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
- Add chopped onions and saute them till soft.
- Add peeled and mashed potatoes.
- Add salt and other dry spices and mix them well.
- Mash the potatoes well with a masher.
- Let the mix cool then make round balls of equal size.
- Add salt, red chilli powder, baking soda and carrom seeds to the gram flour and make a batter with water.
- Coat the potato balls in this gram flour batter.
- Heat oil in a wok and fry them in batches.
- Fry them till they are golden brown on both sides. Serve hot with chutney or sauce.
