Mullu murukku or also known as muthusaram in Brahmin households, is an easy murukku recipe made with rice flour, moong dal and chana dal. This murukku is usually made for auspicious. Mullu Murukku is a traditional recipe usually made for Krishna Jayanthi. Today we will learn how to make mullu murukku following this easy recipe with step wise pictures.
Steps to make Muthusaram (Mullu Murukku):
- Mix well rice flour, chickpea flour, urad dal powder and moong dal powder. To it, add red chili powder, sesame seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida and ghee(can be substituted by vanaspati)
- Add water to it and mix well till a smooth dough with no lumps is prepared.
- Place the disc with star shaped holes in the press and fill the press with the dough.
- Heat oil in a pan. When the oil is heated, squeeze the press in circular motion over the oil so that the dough is dropped in the oil. Make sure both sides turn golden brown in color.
- Using a perforated ladle, remove from the oil.
- When it cools down, you may separate the threads and store as smaller pieces in an air tight container.
Mullu Murukku - This is usually made with rice flour but this version with maida is my fav too. As krishna jayanthi(gokulashtami) is nearing, I wanted to try kai murukku and yest I. Also known as "Magizhampoo", "Muthusaram", "Manakombu" and "Mullu Thenkuzhal" (phew!), this is one of my childhood favorites. Mullu murukku is always on top of the list during diwali preparations, we make few varieties of these for distribution to family and friends. It is quite simple & versatile to.
